SOS Learning Center for Irulas Tribal Children

There are tribal settlements around outskirts of Madhurandagam, Chengalpat District of Tamil Nadu, where the living standards of the tribes are extremely poor. The people are living in complete isolation far away from any transportation, medical facilities, no electricity, there are no human settlement in the vicinity of at least 10km. It is heartbreaking to see people so backward and very limited support if any at all from the neighboring villages. 

 

One good way to change this pathetic situation is to provide good education for the tribal children so they can be compatible to seek job in the outer world. Without education and no skill to survive outside of their living areas they are presently living in tough conditions.  This approach is a long term process however it is a sure method to solve the problem.

Learning Center 

Therefore we have decided to start a coaching center at Arcadu Village, Cheyyur Taluk, by name SOS Learning Center to educate children from about 22 Irular Tribe families.

There are presently 28 children attending, one Teacher from their locality. 

Our goal is to motivate the children to attend classes by giving them free books, notebook, and snacks whenever necessary. 

The Cost

Approximately Rs. 5000 is required to run the center, which includes monthly salary for the teacher, cost of book, notebooks, snacks, transportation etc.

We rescued a mirgrant worker

Due to COVID19 lockdown for past few months many migrant workers were stranded without work and no money for sustenance. Many migrants found their way to their home towns and such one migrant worker trying to leave Chennai was informed stranded in the outskirts of Chennai beyond Chengalpet without food for a week and in bad health.

Yesterday we received an 'sos' call from a local person to help and rescue the stranded helpless man. We hurried to the spot and arranged for an ambulance to give treatment and informed the local police. He was then taken care by the health authorities and the police.

We're starting a Bible Course

Glad to inform you that our team has now matured to start an online Bible Course in the name of Pathfinders Institute of Theological Research. We will be welcoming new students who can utilize the covid19 lockdown time at home in a useful manner.

COVID19 relief with Brightway India

Due to COVID19 lockdown situation around the world, international students staying in Chennai have seen a massive hit. They were not able to receive their daily expenses from home country. Many were found unable to express their distressing situation but Mr. Sagadevan (the Founder of Brightway India Charitable Trust) and myself, Barclay, of SOS Foundation have intervened into the issue and arranged for monthly provisions as much as we could.

Brightway India has been doing various covid relief activity recently during the lockdown, and we are happy to jointly participate with Brightway in carrying out relief activities. It was good to take part in such activity.

Finally registration finished

Me and Christopher sir went to Ashok Nagar register office around 2pm after a tedious effort to print the text on the stamp papers.

We had a very tough time getting two witnesses. After trying several and failed basker sir sent two sakya home's staffs. Christopher sir attested as the authority drafted the deed. Finally registration was done n given 95/2016 as the number.

At one point I lost hope and thought there's too many supernatural opposition to SOS' works especially registration. Then I remembered I forgot Jesus in this. Then I realized and prayed immediately things started working out. I saw the change.

First meet at Jafferkhanpet

Me, mithun, met Mr Christopher and Mr. Baskar at Sakya Sanga "Home for Homeless" project at Jafferkhanpet. Friday last.

Things to do

Bro. Mithun, Bro.Aadhavan and myself met at Anna Nagar tower park and finalized these to be done now:

1. Slideshows - I have to do this, already some ppts are there, some to be made. Projector is required either purchase or rent or borrow.
2. Communications to be sent out to old members and new - phone calls, sms, whatsapp, email.
3. Email list needs to be prepared for bulk emailing.
4. Prayers for registration and existing few members are being conducted already. God will bless.

Reviving the old team at Kottur

Few years back we used to gather here in Bro. Mano's home for the fellowship, study, and discussions. Last night we gathered after many months for discussion to start the social works once again. We had planned many things before but never had the chance to implement it only now God is opening the way.
